DW Architect \/ Developer - MSFT - OnPrem and Azure Data Warehouse\/ Fabric

We are seeking a highly skilled DW Architect/ Developer for On-Prem and Azure/ Fabric DW to design, develop, and optimize enterprise-grade database solutions across both cloud (Azure) and on-premises environments. DW Architect works closely with Head of EIM, EDW Manager, Integrations Manager The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with SQL Server, Azure Data Services, ETL pipelines, and performance tuning in large-scale, high-volume data ecosystems. You will work closely with data engineers, architects, and business stakeholders to deliver robust, scalable, and secure data solutions that drive strategic decision-making.

Architecture responsibilities:

  • The Data Warehouse Architect will spearhead the design of the technical and information architecture for the data warehouse, including data lake/ operational data stores, staging area, data warehouse, data marts – on-prem SQL to Azure eco-system.
  • Provide technical direction and guidance to data engineers, BI architects, and other partners on data ingestion processes using Azure data fabric . Azure data factory
  • Work with business stakeholders to identify critical data (entities and attributes) and capture how users in various parts of the organization interpret data
  • Responsible for aligning data solutions to business requirements by planning and managing data architecture work
  • Integrate disparate data models into coherent enterprise and/or Lob data models
  • Advise on tools to create data dictionaries and business glossaries to document data lineages, data definitions and metadata for all business-critical data domains
  • Help identify and design solutions that allow performing root cause analysis to enable proactive issue resolution and data quality maintenance
  • Develop strategies for flexibility, scalability, and define the future technical architecture direction for the business intelligence reporting environment

Development responsibilities:

  • Ability to move between high level architectural review/design and the “roll up the sleeves” level of providing architectural oversight for project delivery
  • On need basis, develop database solutions for SQL Server, including creating tables, stored procedures, custom user-defined functions, triggers, and indexes
  • Perform data evaluation, data profiling, and identification of potential problem areas and make appropriate recommendations
  • Assist in the definition, documentation, and development of mapping rules for movement of data from disparate data sources and into the various components and subject areas of the BI environment
  • Oversee and create data models, data flow diagrams, data mappings alongside with Product Support and SMEs in place

Cross functional responsibilities:

  • Collaborate across the organization to standardize a relevant data collection and aggregation strategy, data warehousing, and transactional data repository approach
  • Works in a collaborative, compassionate manner with stakeholder/ partners, Vendor Pods
  • Work with Application Leads on data architectures and orchestrate the flow. Coach EIM team on data architecture matters
  • Be a Member of Agile/Scrum teams, coaching and guiding other Business Intelligence and data engineers on how to implement the platforms
Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (Master’s preferred).

Experience: 

  • Over all 10+ years of experience in delivering Data Warehouse solutions with robust architecture
  • 5+ Strong working knowledge around Azure Data Fabric, Data factory, ADLS Gen2, Azure Synapse Analytics (Dedicated and Serverless SQL pools)
  • 5+ years experience in programming and scripting languages – python, pyspark, Powershell, SQL
  • Technical Skills:
    • Advanced proficiency in T-SQL, query tuning, and database design.
    • Strong experience with ETL tools (SSIS, Azure Data Factory) and data integration best practices.
    • Hands-on experience with hybrid (on-prem + cloud) data architectures.
    • Familiarity with Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines for database deployments.
    • Good exposure to AI tools like Cursor AI Editor for development and testing.
    • Knowledge of scripting languages such as PowerShell or Python.
  • Soft Skills
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • Proven ability to work in fast-paced, agile environments.

Additional Requirements:

  • Good exposure to various cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, OCI) to play a key role in Application Modernization
  • Experience with Azure Databricks, Spark, or other big data processing tools.
  • Exposure to data warehousing solutions and dimensional modeling.
  • Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate or Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect.
  • Familiarity with data visualization platforms such as Power BI or Tableau.
  • Knowledge of ETL tools or data integration frameworks (e.g., SSIS, Azure Data Factory).
  • Exposure to data governance, data quality, and master data management concepts.
