Reporting directly to the SVP Supply Chain, the Head of Global Logistics will manage all aspects of global transportation partnerships and initiatives for ground, ocean, and air modes within UniFirst’s domestic and international supply chain and the relationship with existing 3PL. Responsibilities include managing inbound, outbound logistics and Compliance activities, leading strategic alliances with freight partners, optimize freight service provider selection and procurement process, and identifying areas of opportunity within the domestic and global transportation network.
This position is instrumental in optimizing logistics network across all channels, geographies, supporting a fast, efficient, compliant, and cost-effective global supply chain.

Responsibilities: Develop and implement the vision and network strategy for UniFirst Global Logistics that delivers a truly world-class customer experience.

  • Work closely with Sales, Supply Chain and Operations leadership to implement combined strategies for logistics and fulfillment operations.
  • Work closely with freight brokerage firm(s) to coordinate TL and LTL transportation on inbound, inter-company and outbound shipments, freight optimization, invoicing, audit and payments.
  • Lead all aspects of daily management and tracking of in-transit shipments from origin to destination including booking, document preparation (bill of lading, invoicing, certificate of origin, export declaration), follow-up, root cause analysis on issues and tracking delivery performance.
  • Manage logistics budgets and carrier compliance with company policies, procedures, and performance metrics, including rate negotiation, contracting, on-time service expectations, and quarterly business reviews.
  • Build customs compliance processes and controls across the organization to ensure compliance at all levels.
  • Growing, evolving, and advocating US/Canadian Customs compliance culture within the organization.
  • Oversees 3PL operator supporting special projects.
  • Inspire, lead, direct, supervise and coach global logistics team members, develop and mentor, communicate clear performance goals, expectations and provide training as necessary.
  • Stay current with industry best practices in logistics, operations, and transportation solutions to ensure regulatory compliance and drive innovation.
Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business management, Supply Chain, Logistics, Trade / Commerce, or related discipline, Master's degree a plus 7-10 years of experience as a Logistics or Distribution leader.
  • Proven experience in global logistics operations.
  • Experience working with global freight forwarding and transportation supply chain partners.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing 3PL operators, handling third-party relations, and influencing cost and performance objectives.
  • Deep experience designing, creating and leading global trade compliance activities and expert knowledge of import/export guidelines.
  • Detailed understanding of international, heavyweight, parcel, ground, air, and ocean logistics operations
  • Knowledge of logistics related software and technology systems such as TMS, Shipping Systems etc.
  • Track record of implementing high-value, highly strategic logistics operations and projects and building new solutions from the bottom-up
  • Strong social skills with an ability to build and grow relationships
  • Superior verbal, presentation, and written communication skills
  • Experience in implemented Custom Compliance Programs
  • Demonstrated ability to build, lead and manage comprehensive logistics organization
  • Past P&L oversight and budget for multi-modal transportation solutions
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects
  • Experience managing ~$60M in Logistics spend
