UniFirst Canada is seeking a Production Manager. In this role you will achieve location’s objectives regarding processing of materials, contributing to overall location growth and profitability. This is accomplished by efficient flow of product through the production process on a timely basis, which conforms to quality requirements, and through the optimum utilization of human, material and capital resources in accordance with corporate policy.

Job Detail -

Quality
  • Ensure that the UniFirst Quality Policy becomes part of the Production Department “Culture” and ISO certification.
  • Participate in, and support the determination, education and implementation of guiding principles to the UniFirst Mission Statement and strategic plan.
  • Insure that the customer/supplier requirements shall be communicated throughout the Production Department and with other departments of the Corporation.
Human Resources
  • Attain optimum utilization of human resources by developing and assuring the maintenance of an effective employee relations program which includes:
  • Implementation of Corporate Policies governing the recruiting and releasing of employees.
  • Assist in preparing job/position descriptions and when necessary, initiate action to have them formally changed in accordance with corporate requirements.
  • Assure education of all Production Department personnel as to duties and responsibilities as outlined in job/position descriptions and requirement manuals.
  • Cross-train personnel within the Production Department and assure familiarization with functions and responsibilities of other divisional departments.
  • Create an atmosphere for self-improvement by delegation of responsibility, encouraging voluntary cross-training and outside formal education.
  • Conduct performance appraisals and counsel departmental personnel.
  • Promote and recommend competent personnel to satisfy divisional and corporate management needs.
  • Create positive atmosphere by treating employees with dignity, respect and soliciting their involvement in problem solving.
  • Provide safety training in regard to OSHA rules and procedures
  • Follow all production reporting requirements.
Profit
  • Maximize divisional profits to provide short- and long-term contribution
  • Prepare a zero-based budget of expenditures necessary to fulfill the department requirements, including manpower, utilities, supplies, flat good merchandise and capital assets.
  • Develop improved processes, systems, procedures and maximize efficiency through innovation and creativity.
  • Minimize supply costs through planned and organized purchasing, inventory control procedures; plus, efficient supply utilization.
  • Minimize equipment/machinery repair costs through organized purchasing, following preventative and planned maintenance systems and minimize utility consumption per pound processed.
  • Minimize manpower costs through goal setting, careful scheduling, work-flow controls and continuous interaction with production associates (MBWA).
  • Control merchandise costs by adherence to proper processing and merchandise return procedures; plus, identification of merchandise damaged by customers.
  • Institute and maintain utilities conservation and record keeping.
  • Extended life of capital assets through planned building security, safety, housekeeping and property maintenance.
Growth
  • Participate in attainment of divisional growth goals for customer retention, pricing and new customer sales by providing quality products and a well-maintained facility which will enhance our reputation. Assure alertness by all production department personnel to new business opportunities.
Communication
  • Maintain communications between production functions with other corporate departments, customers and suppliers. This will be accomplished through verbal and written means, department and sub-department meetings, written reports according to corporate requirements, charting and other visual means, customer visitations and to the public at large, through community activities.
Regulations
  • Manage departmental activities regarding safety, health and environmental issues to ensure that proper consideration is given to corporate policy and federal, state and local regulations.
Qualifications

Requirements -

Experience
  • Quality management system experience.
  • Maintenance management system experience.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in both English and French fluently.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures and instructions.
  • Ability to write reports and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from co-workers, managers, and vendors.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Education
  • Four-year degree in appropriate background preferred
Additional Requirements
  • Valid non-commercial driver’s license.
  • CDL-A license with air brake restriction lifted may be required depending on location.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Meet DOT physical qualifications.
  • Safe driving record.
